Our Story

The Joinery started in 1982. I had just finished college and was new to
Portland. My focus was restoring furniture, but it quickly switched to
building furniture. The concept of taking a raw board and creating an
heirloom got me hooked, and I have been handcrafting furniture ever
since.
Today when I walk in our shop, hear the machines and see the master
craftsmen creating furniture, I feel great knowing this has been going
on for nearly 30 years. All of our product is guaranteed for life. If you
or your family ever experience a problem with our craftsmanship, let
us know and we will take care of it.
If you want a custom piece, our craftsmen and designers welcome new
challenges. You will see in our catalog four primary styles: Mission,
Shaker, Pacific, and Modern. The wood we use to craft these styles
is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, which means that the
wood comes from well-managed forests.
The Joinery has given us the opportunity to be involved in our
community. We deliver Meals on Wheels, build furniture for
charitable causes, and have received awards for recycling and powering
our shop with wind.
Stop in and visit us. You can view the masters building, create your
own heirloom piece with our designers, examine the joinery, smell the
fresh natural oil finish, and feel the warmth of wood.
