While in our current "Heat wave" we thought it would be nice to feature a cool space. This retreat located on Lake Wenatchee, Washington is full of custom details that are not only unique but very functional. DeForest Architects and Theresa Benny Interior Design teamed up to create this modern yet comfortable cabin.

The living room above doubles as a sleeping porch - the coves to the right are seating by day and sleeping nooks at night. The privacy created by having individual nooks is brilliant.

One of the latest and easiest ways to implement design trends is color blocking. Color Blocking is the use of bold colors in interesting ways to add excitement to a space. The key to color blocking is bravely using BOLD colors. The trend is easy to implement because you don't have to use many colors, just enough to add interest.

By painting the casing around the above door electric blue the architect has made what is already a focal point,  much more interesting and unique. Imagine how ordinary and expected black trim would be, not nearly the same impact. Very brave and well done! Definitely take a minute to see more pictures from this project here, and be sure to note the clever pull for this door.

This week's fresh on the floor is a highly figured Western Walnut Live Edge Bed. Every time we get one of these beds on the floor it does not last long, but this one is particularly special. With amazing figured locally harvested Walnut material, this bed does come with a little up charge. It is available in Queen and fits a mattress only set up. Dimensions are: 87" d x 82" w x " h. The price for this one is $2,862.

For the past 3 years, The Joinery has been fortunate to have great food right in our parking lot. It started off with El Gallo, who just celebrated their 3 year anniversary making handmade corn tortillas, delicious carnitas burritos, and amazing Fish Tacos (shown below).

Doug and Christine, owners of  Everybody's Brewing, was kind enough to donate The Joinery beer for our 30th anniversary party in June.  We had both their Goodwill IPA and their Daily Bread Common Ale on tap, both of which are very delicious.  They are located in White Salmon, WA in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge and they craft their beer on site and feature a wonderful menu full of seasonal, local ingredients.

The Portland Japanese Garden is currently hosting the works of over 35 artisans in their Garden Pavilion. This amazing event runs until September 3rd and is included in garden admission so don't miss out! Some of the featured artisans this year include sculptors, printmakers, and jewelers whose pieces are inspired by Japanese culture. The Joinery is honored to be part of this event as well.
