The Perfect Toys for Kids on the Go

Just in time for the holidays! The Joinery is now featuring two new really fun toys made by Baldwin Toys of Omaha, Nebraska. Each of these pieces are handcrafted by artist and owner Steve Baldwin. Since 1976 Steve has been making toys with a focus on the quality. His work has been featured in shows across the country and received numerous awards. What we really enjoy about Baldwin toys is that he makes toys for everyone: from collector pieces to the toys that endure a childhood of playing.

For this holiday season The Joinery is featuring Baldwin Toys Wood Car 4 Pack Toy and his Transporter Toy. Both of these pieces are made with a two wood species and finished with a food safe oil finish.

The Joinery + Soaring Heart Natural Bed Company

The masters of sawing wood join forces with the masters of sawing logs.

We’re pleased and excited to have found a perfect match in mattresses for our collection of beautifully crafted beds.

Soaring Heart Natural Bed Company is a small, 30-year-old Seattle business committed to the art and science of a deep and healthful sleep — and they do so with uncompromising custom craftsmanship, astute innovation, locally-sourced organic materials, utmost integrity and an evolved social consciousness that makes them an active and honored member of their community.

In other words, Soaring Heart is everything The Joinery expects of itself. So there’s nothing strange about these two bedfellows joining forces to furnish you with the whole framework and fabric of a good night’s sleep. To see all the Soaring Heart Mattresses The Joinery offers, visit our mattress page.

To celebrate this partnership, The Joinery will be hosting a Soaring Heart Product Event at our Woodstock showroom on Saturday, July 23rd. At this special event you can meet one of the makers of these amazing mattresses and learn about their product first hand.

The Joinery Launches Holiday Gifts Made From Upcycled Lumber

Small pieces of perfection from our master woodworkers

The Joinery has designed a collection of small, handcrafted gifts for the holiday season. Traditionally known for dining tables and bedroom sets, The Joinery is featuring solid wood bud vases, woven trivets, and floating knife racks handmade in Portland by its master woodworkers.

Adhering to the company’s sustainability mission of recycling 100% of its wood waste, owner and CEO Jon Blumenauer challenged the team to creatively build small gift items out of the “off-fall” – or leftover scrap wood – from the manufacturing facility’s larger furniture pieces.

Caravan Pacific's Alberta Lamps are now available at The Joinery. Designed and handcrafted in Portland, these mid-century inspired lamps are made with the same attention to detail and level of craftsmanship as our furniture.

Knotty But Oh So Nice: the Fiber Arts of Holly Mueller

Holly Mueller was already an accomplished seamstress and textile designer when she ran across an old book on macrame from the ‘70s and — voila! — she was hooked. Or rather, hitched. The possibilities of putting a contemporary spin on traditional macrame, using a variety of fibers, materials, plaits, shapes, weaves and dimensions, have been energizing and engaging her ever since.

The Joinery is proud and delighted to showcase Holly’s work in our Yamhill store, where her original wallhangings, window covers and room dividers are just as apt to take a visitor’s breath away as the craft of our own master woodworkers.

Where Craft, Passion & Business Intersect: Lilith Rockett’s Handmade Artistry

If you ever wondered about the current state of Oregon Craft and its critical role in providing creative fuel for innovation and economic development that goes well beyond the beautiful pieces the artisans create, look no further than the current exhibit at Portland’s Museum of Contemporary Craft (MCC), on display this summer.

Our new Milo Bar Cart: a movable feast for the eyes

To turn the tables on Joni Mitchell, there’s a time in life when car wheels turn to cart wheels — which is right around the time that your guests arrive and the party begins. And when you roll in with The Joinery’s new Shaker-inspired Milo Bar Cart, you’ll drink up the oohs and aahs like a slow sip of a shaken, not stirred gin martini.

We challenged The Joinery’s designers and woodworkers to create a bar cart that’s not only Aston-Martin beautiful, but that’s worthy of being warranted for 100,000 miles or a lifetime of use, whichever comes first. The result is a showpiece of the simple yet elegant details that define master craftsmanship. And of course, we’ll customize this instant classic for you and your decor by giving you a variety of wood species and nickel or brass accents to choose from.

Artful and practical bread boards

Nothing brings a smile quicker than delicious aromas from the kitchen. A home cooked meal can’t be accomplished without the right tools. Every chef will tell you a good knife is nothing without a good board to use it on. Bread boards are a signature item at The Joinery and add functionality, warmth and a homey look to any kitchen.

Bread boards get more beautiful with time, especially if they are well made and cared for. The handcrafted durability of The Joinery bread boards will be valued for generations and often are displayed proudly like a work of art.

When selecting a bread board, first consider your needs. How much counter space do you have? Every kitchen should have at least one large cutting surface to give you ample space to work with. Small bread boards are also convenient for clean-up, cutting small things quickly and even as presentation boards for cheese, fruit and garnishes.

Types of Wood Bread Boards

The Joinery offers two types of bread boards, both priced at $60, perfect for wedding gifts, birthdays and to treat yourself:
